What is Reiki?​

 

Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that promotes relaxation and mind-body wellness. During a Reiki session, “Ki” or Universal Life Force Energy, is channeled through the hands of the practitioner into the client. Reiki can be performed three ways: through gentle touch, hands-off, and via distance method. It is well-known for its ability to release tension, relieve pain, and create a sense of peacefulness. Reiki is also used to open and balance the chakras, clear energy pathways that run through the body and connect to vital organs, and remove “trapped” emotional blockages. By restoring energy flow, Reiki opens the body up to healing. This complimentary treatment is often used in modern hospitals and clinics to support the physical and emotional health of cancer patients, those in hospice care, and individuals recovering from surgery.

Reiki Origins

Mikao Usui, founder of traditional Usui Reiki, was first initiated with the ability to channel Reiki in 1922 while meditating and fasting for 21 days on Mt. Kurama in Japan. After receiving this gift, he began traveling across the country to help heal and teach Reiki to as many people as he could. Usui Sensei believed that Reiki belonged to everyone and should be shared. Usui Reiki was first brought to the United States in 1937 by Hawayo Takata. Reiki has since spread globally, evolving into many new varieties of the practice.
